Five tricks to keeping cool at night

The humid summer months can play havoc on your sleeping pattern. There is nothing worse than having a stuffy room and sleeping on top of a big winters duvet, tossing and turning with no possibility of drifting off into a nice, refreshing slumber.
Here at The Beauty Pillow we understand the benefits of a good night’s rest and therefore have come up with five ways to keep cool for the rest of summer.


1. Cotton Cotton !
Save the pretty silk and satin sheets for cooler evenings and turn to lightweight, light-coloured bed cotton (Egyptian or other). Cotton is much more breathable and amazing for promoting ventilation and airflow in the bedroom.

Beauty Pillow Tip: Surprisingly wearing light cotton pyjamas is even more effective than sleeping in the nude.

2. Pamper your pulses.
I f you need to cool down asap, use a cold, damp flannel (or place under a cool running tap) and place them on your pulse points (wrists, neck, elbows, groin, ankles and behind the knees).

3. Have a cup of tea
You heard right, having a warm (de-caffeinated) drink will warm up your core, adding heat to the body, this increased rate of perspiration is the key. Although sweat may seem like a nuisance, the body perspires for a very good reason. When sweat evaporates from the skin, energy is absorbed into the air as part of the reaction, thereby cooling the body.

4. Turn off the electronics
Gadgets and other small appliances give off heat, even when turned off. Reduce total heat in the house (and save energy!) by keeping plugs out of sockets when the appliances are not in use.

5. Hot water bottle?!
That’s right! In winter, fill your hot water bottle with boiling water for toasty toes without cranking the thermostat. During summer, stick it in the freezer to create a bed-friendly ice pack.
