Five great habits to add to your bedtime routine

Sleeping is your body’s time to repair itself from your everyday exposure to harsh ultraviolet (UV) sun rays, dust, harsh chemicals and environmental conditions. Unfortunately, your body can only do so much and over time this can lead to wrinkles, fine lines and a dull complexion. However, if you take good care of your skin and hair by adding these quick and easy habits to your bedtime routine you can prevent and even reverse the effects.

1.Remove your makeup

No matter how busy or tired you are, you must take the time to remove any and all makeup before going to bed at night. As you sleep, your pores open, leaving your skin vulnerable to traces of foundation and mascara which will easily clog your pore. This will result in spots, uneven skin tones and even breakouts!

  1. Use a Toner

Toner helps restore your skin’s natural PH balance which helps your skin fight off bacteria. It also helps cleanse your face of dust, pollution and impurities; which is particularly important for oily and acne prone skin.

After cleansing your face with either makeup remover, facial cleanser or good old soap and water, apply a small amount of toner to a cotton pad and wipe your entire face and neck area, leaving your skin to air dry.

Beauty Pillow Tip: It is kinder on your face to use an alcohol free formula

  1. Apply hand cream

Hands are a big tell-tale sign of age, if you don’t take care of them, your hands will let you know! By simply washing your hands with warm water and a mild soap, patting dry with a towel and applying hand cream before bed, you will keep your hands looking youthful and refreshed for years to come.

Beauty Pillow Tip: Use a thick, plain and slightly greasy hand cream for ultimate effectiveness.

  1. Apply petroleum jelly on your feet

During the summer months there is nothing worse than accessorising little heels and flips flops with dry, cracked heels. This can be easily fought off with a similar routine for your hands.

After washing your feet with warm water, pat them dry properly and apply petroleum jelly or foot cream onto dry, rough parts of your feet. This will soften the skin and prevent cracked heels. Apply plenty of jelly and cover with socks and keep on throughout night for deep moisturising.

Beauty Pillow Tip: If you have time, massage your feet daily at night using circular motions for at least 5 minutes. This will help you relax and sleep better.

  1. Pin up your hair

Brush your hair and either braid or pin into a bun to avoid knots and tangles in the morning. Hair contains oils and dirt therefore keeping it off your face with avoid pimples and acne breakouts.
